Many homeowners with a Trex deck will tell you what a great addition it was to their outdoor space—after all, Trex decks are durable, strong, and capable of lasting upwards of 20 years. However, even durable Trex decks require periodic cleaning in order to maintain their beauty and structural integrity. Fortunately, learning how to clean Trex decks is super simple. In fact, in most cases, the job only requires soap and water!  Here are some tips on how to clean a Trex deck quickly (and easily!) so that you can go back to enjoying your deck without worry.

How to Clean Stains off Trex Decking

One of the best parts about Trex decking is that they offer a 7- day stain warranty if you are struggling with stains from oil or food. However, for the warranty to be valid, you must try to remove the stain yourself within 7 days (in fact, it’s best to attempt a stain removal right after the stain happens so that it doesn’t set). To begin the clean-up process, clear off any dirt or debris that has accumulated on the surface of your deck using a broom or a leaf blower.

Next, rinse the area with a hose and fill up a small bucket with warm, soapy water. Use soapy water and a soft-bristle brush (like a dish brush) to gently scrub the stain from your deck. As soon as the stain is gone, use hose water to remove any leftover soap. This method often works with mold, mildew, or hard water. That’s right, plain soap and water are one of the best ways to clean Trex decking.

How To Clean Trex Railings & Posts

When it comes to keeping decks looking great, cleaning the railings is just as important as cleaning the decking itself! To keep your Trex Signature railing looking fresh, bright, and water-spot-free, rinse the area with water and scrub the railing with plain white vinegar. Rinse thoroughly with soft water (hard water can cause more spots to appear on the railing). If soft water isn’t available, prevent water stains by drying the area with a blower or fan. If there are other stubborn sports—such as tree sap or ink marks—that didn’t wash clean with this method, try using a non-abrasive cleaner specifically formulated for outdoor surfaces as an alternative option.

For stains on Trex Transcend or Trex Select railing, our experts at Black Rock Decks recommend using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser as a Trex deck cleaner. Magic Erasers are strong enough to remove any stain from your railing while gentle enough to keep the surface scratch-free!
