Festive Ways to Deck Out Your Deck for the Holidays!

Ready to sleigh your outdoor decor? It’s time to get your Utah deck decked out for the holidays!

If you plan to entertain guests during the holiday season, creating a cozy, festive space on your deck is a must! To help you make the most of your outdoor area, let’s look at some ideas to keep things warm and inviting.

Chill Out With Jack Frost

Extend the party outdoors and allow your guests to take in the gorgeous view of the Utah skies on your stunning deck built by Blackrock Decks!

Grab some blankets and create a cozy atmosphere by placing them on and around the furniture for guests to use. You can also turn this into a fun holiday gift giving experience and allow your guests to pick their favorite to keep!

Coordinate the Decor on the Deck

Add coordinating decor from the inside of your home to your deck! Going with a snowflake theme? Pick out some cushion covers that match the color or add some snowflake decorations to the outside wall for a fun photo op!

Want to add a touch of sophistication? Add some garland on the railings and intertwine some lights!

*Avoid putting anything on the stair rails or places on the railing that people use for stability!

Light It Up

If you don’t have a deck roof, patio cover or pergola, but want to add extra lighting via Christmas lights, you can string them up to create a canopy effect with tarp-style lights or use a standing light pole to string from one side of your deck to the other!

Regardless of how you arrange them, twinkling lights always add that special Christmas feel!

Stay Warm & Safe

In our last blog, which broke down the different types of Trex Decking, we highlighted that several of the deck styles were rated as fire-resistant.

If you want a tall heater, a fireplace, a fire pit, or an electric or propane heater on your deck, it is essential to check if your deck material is fire-resistant. You’ll also want to continue following general safety precautions by keeping the heat source away from high-traffic areas and away from flammable furniture and other materials.

Cover the Cords

Light cords, or any other plugs lying on your deck floor can be hazardous to guests and even pets!

Boost that comfy atmosphere you’ve already created by throwing down some non-slip floor rugs and runners to cover up the cords. They’ll also help to soak up any excess water or snow on your guests’ shoes before they move indoors.

Keep the Stairs Secure & Salted

Above, we mentioned not putting any decor on the stair rails. This also goes for the stairs themselves! Keep rock salt or calcium chloride (recommended snow melt products by Trex for their materials) nearby to prevent the stairs from becoming icy and slippery.

You can also add a festive holiday mat at the bottom for guests to dry off their shoes before going up to add even more slip prevention.

Add extra lights or a brightly lit tree nearby to help guests navigate the steps in the dark. This keeps your space fun and festive but also safe!
